Hello, I'm Helen.
Fifty-eight, Brighton-based, back in the dating world and writing it all down — honestly, and without the sugar-coating.
Who I am
I am fifty-eight, I live just off the seafront in Brighton, and I have been single again since my divorce came through at fifty-two. That was six years of learning how dating works now, mostly by getting it wrong first. I write about it openly because almost nobody else my age does, and the silence around it helps no one.
On Senior-Dating-Online.co.uk I cover the things I actually needed answers to: how to write a profile that sounds like a person, what an age-gap relationship really involves, how mutually beneficial arrangements work, and how to spot the man who is only interested in your savings. Real questions, answered by someone who has sat through the bad first dates as well as the good ones.
How this started
I spent thirty years in NHS administration and had not been on a date since 1989. When I finally made a profile, a friend had to explain what swiping was. The first six months were dreadful: two men who never turned up, one who spent the whole evening talking about his ex-wife, and a very persuasive "engineer working offshore" who asked me for four hundred pounds in week three. I did not send it. But it was close enough to frighten me.
I started writing notes for myself after that, then for a couple of friends in the same position, and eventually for anyone who found them useful. That is what this site became. I still date, and I still get things wrong, so there is always something new to write about.
